Texas Public Radio is the nonprofit, member-supported NPR broadcaster for San Antonio and South-Central and West Texas, operating seven stations led by KSTX 89.1 FM and KPAC 88.3 FM plus the San Antonio Report digital newsroom.
Texas Public Radio (TPR) is a nonprofit, member-supported public radio broadcaster based in San Antonio, Texas. An independent community licensee, it traces its roots to KPAC, which signed on in November 1982 as an all-classical station under the Classical Broadcasting Society of San Antonio, and to KSTX, which brought NPR news and information to San Antonio in 1988 after the two efforts merged. TPR states its mission as engaging, inspiring and informing, to empower its community to make life better.
TPR operates seven public radio stations that broadcast across 39 counties and about 40,000 square miles of South-Central and West Texas, reaching about 3.6 million people over the air and anyone with broadband online. The flagship stations are KSTX 89.1 FM, its NPR news and information service, and KPAC 88.3 FM, its classical music service, both in San Antonio. The network also includes KTXI 90.1 FM in Ingram for the Hill Country, KVHL 91.7 FM in Llano for the Highland Lakes, KTPR 89.9 FM in Stanton for the Midland, Odessa and Big Spring area, KTPD 89.3 FM in Del Rio and KCTI 1450 AM in Gonzales. Its studios are in the Irma and Emilio Nicolas Media Center on West Commerce Street in downtown San Antonio.
Alongside its broadcast services, TPR is a multi-platform news organization. It produces local news, talk and classical programming, and the San Antonio Report, a digital news brand of Texas Public Radio, covers the city with newsletters, commentary and community engagement. TPR is a member station of NPR and carries programming from American Public Media, PRX and the BBC.
TPR hires for its newsroom and digital properties, including reporters, editors, producers and community engagement roles, as well as for classical music hosting, membership and development, marketing, engineering and finance and administration. Positions are based in San Antonio, with some hybrid and part-time arrangements.
