Nebraska Public Media

Nebraska's statewide public media network: nine PBS member television stations, a statewide NPR member radio network, local news, sports, education and public safety services, headquartered on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus in Lincoln.

Nebraska Public Media, known as Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET) until 2021, is the statewide public broadcasting network for Nebraska. It operates a nine-station public television network affiliated with PBS and a statewide public radio network affiliated with NPR, whose combined signals reach almost all of Nebraska and parts of neighboring states. Its television service began in 1954 with KUON-TV in Lincoln, and its radio network followed in 1989 and 1990. In 2026 it acquired KOOO 101.9 FM, which serves the Omaha area as Nebraska Public Media Omaha with a news, talk and adult album alternative format.

The network is operated by the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission, a state agency, in partnership with the University of Nebraska. The commission holds most of the station licenses, while flagship KUON-TV is licensed to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Nebraska Public Media is headquartered in the Terry M. Carpenter and Jack G. McBride Nebraska Public Media Center on the university's East Campus in Lincoln and keeps a studio on the University of Nebraska Omaha campus.

Its services include five television channels (Nebraska Public Media, WORLD, Create, PBS KIDS 24/7 and FNX First Nations Experience), two radio services, a local news team that works with NPR's Midwest Newsroom and Harvest Public Media, sports coverage including the NSAA high school championships, and educational resources such as Nebraska Studies and the Nebraska Virtual Capitol tour. Nebraska Public Media Labs experiments with emerging media. The network also carries public safety services for the state, relaying Emergency Alert System messages, tornado warnings and Amber Alerts and serving as a Joint Information Center for the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.

Most of Nebraska Public Media's jobs are in Lincoln. Staff positions are posted through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's employment site, and the organization hires across content production, hosting and journalism, broadcast engineering and technology, media operations, marketing and audience development, along with student workers.
