Oregon Public Broadcasting is an independent, member-supported public media organization in Portland, Oregon, running OPB TV, OPB Radio and KMHD jazz radio plus digital news, podcasts and streaming for Oregon and southwest Washington.
Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) is an independent, nonprofit public media organization headquartered on South Macadam Avenue in Portland, Oregon. Its radio roots go back to 1923, when Oregon Agricultural College put KOAC on the air, and its television service began in 1957 as KOAC-TV. Today OPB is funded largely by member support and describes its mission as connecting people across Oregon and the Pacific Northwest through the power of a shared story.
OPB operates a statewide television network of five full-power stations (KOPB-TV Portland, KOAC-TV Corvallis, KEPB-TV Eugene, KOAB-TV Bend and KTVR La Grande) with dozens of translators, carrying PBS and American Public Television programming alongside original shows such as Oregon Field Guide. Its radio network of more than 20 FM stations, led by KOPB-FM 91.5 in Portland, carries NPR, American Public Media and BBC World Service programming with local news and talk, and OPB also manages KMHD jazz radio. Digital services include opb.org, live streams, the OPB News app, podcasts and the First Look newsletter.
The service area covers most of Oregon and southwest Washington, from southern Washington to southern Oregon, reaching audiences over the air, online and through the PBS and NPR apps. OPB's newsroom covers politics, science and the environment, arts and culture, education and investigative reporting for the region.
OPB hires journalists and multimedia producers, television and audio production staff, broadcast engineers and IT support, and membership, fundraising, marketing and administrative roles. It also offers paid educational opportunities for early-career journalists and other professionals, and volunteer positions for community members.
