NJ PBS is New Jersey's statewide PBS member network, reaching the state over four public television stations. Montclair State University's College of Communication and Media has operated it since July 1, 2026.
NJ PBS is New Jersey's public television service and the state's PBS member network. It brings national PBS programming together with New Jersey storytelling: documentaries, arts and music, history, children's learning, and public affairs coverage made for and about the state. The service is nonprofit and viewer supported, and its programming is free to watch over the air and through PBS streaming.
The network reaches New Jersey and neighboring markets over four broadcast stations licensed to the New Jersey Public Broadcasting Authority, a state agency: WNJS in Camden, WNJN in Montclair, WNJT in Trenton and WNJB in New Brunswick. It launched as NJTV in 2011, succeeding New Jersey Network, and took the NJ PBS name in 2021. WNET operated the network from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2026.
On July 1, 2026, Montclair State University became the operator of NJ PBS after the State of New Jersey selected it to program and manage the four stations. NJ PBS is housed at the university's College of Communication and Media in Montclair. The university takes full control of programming and the daily newscast on October 1, 2026, when NJ PBS News with Rob Nelson launches, and it has committed to continuing NJ Spotlight's watchdog journalism through NJ PBS.
NJ PBS is building its staff for this new chapter. It hires across news (news direction, executive producing, reporting and digital content), programming, audience and marketing, membership and fundraising, media operations and station administration. Its openings are posted on Montclair State University's careers site.
