Mississippi Public Broadcasting

Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) is the statewide public radio and television network for Mississippi, operated from Jackson by the Mississippi Authority for Educational Television, a state agency.

Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) is the statewide public media network for Mississippi and the only radio and television broadcast network that covers the whole state. It is operated by the Mississippi Authority for Educational Television (MAET), a state agency the Mississippi Legislature created in 1969, which holds the licenses for the state's public television and public radio stations. MPB is headquartered on Ridgewood Road in Jackson.

The network signed on in February 1970 as Mississippi Educational Television, with WMAA (now WMPN-TV) in Jackson as its first station, and added public radio in 1983 as Public Radio in Mississippi. MAET adopted Mississippi Public Broadcasting as the on-air name for all of its television and radio operations in 2003.

Today MPB runs MPB Television, a PBS member network whose transmitters reach nearly all of Mississippi and parts of neighboring states; MPB Think Radio, its statewide news and talk radio network; MPB Music Radio; and the Radio Reading Service. MPB News produces 11 Mississippi-focused newscasts each weekday and is part of the Gulf States Newsroom. Original programs include Southern Remedy, The Gestalt Gardener, Mississippi Antique Showcase and the Thacker Mountain Radio Hour, and the MPB app streams its radio and television services live and on demand.

MPB also serves schools through the Digital Education Network, PBS LearningMedia and teacher programs, and it is part of the state's emergency preparedness and response system. Since 1970 it has received more than 400 national, regional and statewide awards, including Emmy, Edward R. Murrow and Parents' Choice awards. The MPB Foundation raises private support for its work.

As a state agency, MPB posts its openings through the Mississippi State Personnel Board's job system. It hires across broadcast engineering and transmitter maintenance, television and radio production, news, education, finance and administration, and it offers internships to college students.
