Maryland Public Television

Maryland Public Television (MPT) is Maryland's statewide PBS member network, based in Owings Mills. Its six stations reach nearly all of Maryland plus Washington, D.C., and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Maryland Public Television (MPT) is the PBS member network for the state of Maryland and the state's only statewide broadcaster. It is a state agency: the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission, an 11-member body appointed by the governor, holds MPT's FCC licenses and is its governing body. The network signed on in 1969 with WMPB in Baltimore and adopted its current name in 1984.

MPT is headquartered in Owings Mills in Baltimore County. Its six stations, WMPB Baltimore, WMPT Annapolis, WFPT Frederick, WWPB Hagerstown, WGPT Oakland and WCPB Salisbury, cover nearly all of Maryland plus Washington, D.C., and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Alongside its main channel it carries MPT2/Create, PBS Kids and NHK World-Japan, and it streams through the PBS App and MPT Passport.

MPT produces local and nationally distributed programs, among them MotorWeek, Chesapeake Collectibles, Maryland Farm & Harvest, Outdoors Maryland, Artworks, Direct Connection and State Circle, along with documentaries for its annual Chesapeake Bay Week. Its education work includes Thinkport.org and instructional media for students, teachers and child-care providers. The Maryland State Ad Agency, a division of MPT, creates campaigns for state agencies, and the MPT Foundation, a private 501(c)(3) established in 1981, raises and safeguards funds on MPT's behalf.

Most MPT jobs are State of Maryland positions posted on the state's online employment center; the MPT Foundation hires separately. Recent hires include videographers, fiscal staff, membership and marketing managers and senior leadership, and the network recruits transmitter engineers, master control technicians and contractual production crew. It also runs paid and unpaid internships each semester, including a paid Student Fellow program.
