Louisiana Public Broadcasting
Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is Louisiana's statewide PBS network: six public television stations licensed to the Louisiana Educational Television Authority, a state agency, with headquarters in Baton Rouge.
Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is a statewide network of six non-commercial PBS television stations serving Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe and Shreveport. The stations are licensed to the Louisiana Educational Television Authority (LETA), a state agency created by the Louisiana Legislature in 1971, and the network went on the air in 1975 with WLPB-TV in Baton Rouge as its flagship. LPB is headquartered on Perkins Road in Baton Rouge and is also affiliated with WLAE-TV in New Orleans.
LPB's mission is to provide programming that is intelligent, informative, educational and entertaining, and to connect the citizens of the state through content that showcases Louisiana's history, people, places and events. Alongside national PBS programming on its main channel, LPB1, it runs a 24-hour PBS KIDS channel (LPB2) and a Create how-to and lifestyle channel (LPB3). LPB says it reaches more than four million viewers a year.
The network produces its own programs, including Louisiana: The State We're In, the longest-running weekly newsmagazine in the state; Louisiana Spotlight, a quarterly documentary-style series; and Art Rocks!, a weekly arts and culture series, along with documentaries on Louisiana music and history. LPB's Digital Studios produce original digital series on arts education, children's health, history and locally grown crops, and LPB offers education resources for parents and teachers and the Louisiana Digital Media Archive online. Two nonprofits, the Foundation for Excellence in Louisiana Public Broadcasting and Friends of LPB, support its work.
As a state agency, LPB posts its openings through the State of Louisiana civil service jobs site. Recent openings have included television production, camera and transmitter engineering roles as well as accounting, public information and educational technology positions.
