WSRE

WSRE is a noncommercial educational television station in Pensacola, Florida, owned by Pensacola State College. On the air since 1967 on channel 23, it serves the Mobile-Pensacola market with local productions, educational programming and college content.

WSRE is a noncommercial educational television station in Pensacola, Florida, licensed to the District Board of Trustees of Pensacola State College. It signed on September 11, 1967, under the Escambia County school board, and the college, then Pensacola Junior College, became its licensee in 1971. WSRE was a PBS member station for more than five decades. After a September 2025 vote by the college's trustees, it left PBS and became an educational independent station on July 1, 2026, operated directly by the college.

The station broadcasts on virtual channel 23 from a transmitter near Robertsdale, Alabama, and covers the Mobile-Pensacola (Fort Walton Beach) television market, which it has described as more than 588,000 households. Its studios are in the Kugelman Center for Telecommunications on the college's Pensacola campus, which includes the 10,000-square-foot Jean and Paul Amos Performance Studio.

WSRE's schedule combines children's and educational series, Florida public affairs coverage from The Florida Channel, arts and lifestyle programs, and Pensacola State College programming such as Pensacola State Today and Engage PSC. Its local productions include StudioAmped, a concert series featuring original music by regional artists, the interview program Conversations with Jeff Weeks, and Nightmare Theatre. Earlier WSRE productions include Gourmet Cooking with Earl Peyroux, syndicated to public television stations from 1982, and a Suncoast Emmy-nominated documentary on country singer Hank Locklin.

WSRE staff are Pensacola State College employees, and the station's openings are posted on the college's employment site. Its work spans television production and producing and directing, broadcast engineering, master control and program operations, marketing, digital content and graphic design, and business administration.
