Vegas PBS is the PBS member television station for Southern Nevada. It broadcasts as KLVX on channel 10 from the Vegas PBS Educational Technology Campus on East Flamingo Road in Las Vegas, and its signal is rebroadcast across the state over a network of 17 digital translators, reaching 86 percent of Nevada. The station signed on on March 25, 1968, and was the only public television station in Nevada for its first 15 years.
The station is licensed to the Clark County School District, the fifth-largest school district in the nation, and is one of the few PBS stations licensed to a school district. Its staff are district employees, and its openings are posted on the district's job system. Southern Nevada Public Television (SNPT), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with its own board, supports the station through membership, philanthropy and community investment, and the station's President and General Manager also serves as SNPT's Executive Director.
Alongside its main PBS channel, Vegas PBS runs three secondary channels: Create, WORLD and VEGAS PBS KIDS. Its local productions include Nevada Week, on the issues facing the state, and Outdoor Nevada, along with programs that feature Clark County School District students, such as Student Spotlight and Varsity Quiz.
Education is a large part of the station's work: Ready To Learn workshops for children and families, professional development for teachers, online courses and certifications for adults, more than 25 channels of educational programming for classroom viewing, a Special Needs Resource Library serving the whole state, and workforce training with a testing center that proctors exams for licensed occupations and high school completion. Its engineers and master control operators also run a radio network for more than 50 federal, state and local first responder agencies and serve as a backup Emergency Operations Center for the district. The Educational Technology Campus was the first television facility in North America to earn LEED Gold certification.
Vegas PBS hires for broadcast engineering and master control, production and content, programming and scheduling, education and workforce training, fundraising and membership, and finance and administration.
