Nine PBS (KETC) is the PBS member station for St. Louis, on the air since 1954 as the first community-licensed educational TV station in the U.S. It runs four channels, local series such as Living St. Louis and Donnybrook, and early learning programs across the region.
Nine PBS is the PBS member station for the St. Louis region, broadcasting as KETC on channel 9. It is owned by St. Louis Regional Public Media, Inc., a nonprofit community licensee, and its studios are at the Dana Brown Communications Center on Olive Street in the Grand Center neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri.
KETC signed on September 20, 1954, as the first community-licensed educational television station in the United States. Known for decades as KETC 9 and from 2010 as the Nine Network, it became Nine PBS in January 2021. The organization describes its purpose as magnifying and deepening understanding of the community to help the region flourish, guided by four values: community, trust, equity and learning.
Nine PBS operates four broadcast channels (Nine PBS, Nine PBS KIDS, Nine PBS World and Nine PBS Create) alongside ninepbs.org, the PBS app, streaming services, social media, live and virtual events, and the Public Media Commons. Local productions include the magazine series Living St. Louis and the weekly current affairs panel Donnybrook, and its early education team brings PBS KIDS and PBS LearningMedia resources to schools, libraries, early childhood programs and families across the region.
