North Country Public Radio

North Country Public Radio (NCPR) is the member-supported NPR network for the Adirondack North Country, broadcasting from Canton, New York, to northern New York, western Vermont and southeastern Ontario. It is licensed to St. Lawrence University.

North Country Public Radio (NCPR) is a member-supported NPR network headquartered in Canton, New York, in St. Lawrence County. It is a licensee of St. Lawrence University, whose Board of Trustees serves as the station's governing board, and its studios sit beside the university campus. The flagship station, WSLU, signed on on March 7, 1968, became a charter member of National Public Radio, and adopted the North Country Public Radio name in 1984, when it moved to 89.5 FM and began building out a regional network.

Today NCPR operates a network of 33 transmitters covering the entire Adirondack North Country, western Vermont and southeastern Ontario, with coverage that includes Watertown, Plattsburgh, Malone, Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and Glens Falls. Its commercial-free schedule pairs NPR programs such as Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Fresh Air with regional news from an award-winning newsroom, heard weekdays at 8:00 am, and an eclectic mix of locally hosted music programs. The station also produces podcasts including Story of the Day, Northern Light, The Howl, Underscore and First Person, runs the regional news website ncpr.org, and serves as the emergency broadcast service for many communities in the region.

Listener donations sustain NCPR's day-to-day operation: the largest share of its funding comes from household members and regional businesses, and community giving exceeds $1.5 million a year. Its staff includes regional reporters based in the St. Lawrence Valley, the Champlain Valley and the Adirondacks, news hosts, music hosts and announcers, digital and multi-platform content specialists, broadcast engineers, and development, giving and sponsorship staff. Because the station is part of St. Lawrence University, its openings are posted on the university's employment site and listed on NCPR's Jobs at NCPR page.
