PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 1969 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, across the Potomac from Washington, DC. Its members are America's public television stations: more than 350 local, noncommercial stations serving all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa. PBS describes itself as America's largest public media enterprise, the nation's largest classroom and its largest stage for the arts.

PBS does not produce programs itself. It oversees program acquisition and provides program distribution and promotion, education services, digital and streaming products, fundraising support, engineering and technology development, and video marketing for its member stations. Its national schedule carries series such as Nature, Nova, Frontline, Masterpiece, American Experience and PBS News Hour, and its stations reach more than 120 million people each month on air and online.

PBS's own units and brands include PBS KIDS, the children's media service spanning broadcast, the PBS KIDS video and games apps and streaming; PBS Digital Studios, which produces original series for YouTube and other digital platforms; PBS LearningMedia, a free classroom resource for educators built with member stations; PBS Passport, the member streaming benefit; and the PBS Foundation, the independent nonprofit that raises major and planned gifts and foundation support for PBS and its stations.

PBS is funded by member station dues, corporate sponsorships, private foundations and individual donations. It hires across communications, creative services, programming and content, digital product and engineering, education, marketing, development, legal, finance, human resources and information technology. Positions are posted on PBS's Workday careers site and are based at PBS headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, in hybrid arrangements, with some roles fully remote. PBS is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
