Minnesota PBS, known until September 2026 as Twin Cities PBS (TPT), is the Saint Paul PBS member organization that runs KTCA-TV, KTCI-TV and, since adding KSMQ-TV in Austin, service across southern Minnesota, producing Almanac and other local and national programs.
Minnesota PBS is the PBS member organization based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Twin Cities Public Television, Inc., which does business as Minnesota PBS, operates the Twin Cities' two PBS stations, KTCA-TV and KTCI-TV. Known as TPT from 2000 and as Twin Cities PBS from 2015, the organization became Minnesota PBS on September 1, 2026, when KSMQ-TV in Austin joined it, extending service to Austin, Rochester, Winona and seven southern Minnesota counties.
The organization was incorporated in 1955 as Twin City Area Educational Television, and KTCA went on the air on September 16, 1957, as the first noncommercial public television station in Minnesota. Its broadcast services include the main PBS channel, the statewide Minnesota Channel, a PBS KIDS channel and a 24/7 weather channel, and translators carry its signal to the Mankato area. It produces programs for local, regional and national audiences across public affairs, arts and culture, history and children's media, including the weekly public affairs program Almanac, which has aired since 1984, and it is one of the few public television organizations that regularly produces programs for the national PBS schedule.
Beyond broadcast, Minnesota PBS runs a Center for Lifelong Learning with STEM media and education work, hosts community events, and helps local filmmakers bring documentaries, series and public affairs programs to the national public media system. In fiscal year 2025 its content was streamed more than 173 million times, and its broadcasts averaged 632,500 general audience viewers a month. Its offices and studios are on East 4th Street in Lowertown, downtown Saint Paul.
