KUT Public Media

KUT Public Media is a nonprofit public media organization in Austin, Texas, that serves Central Texas through independent news, music and community storytelling. Five services operate under its umbrella: KUT News on 90.5 FM, the NPR member station for Central Texas; KUTX 98.9, a music station that champions local, national and international artists; Texas Standard, the statewide daily news magazine; Austin Signal, a weekday news magazine that blends local journalism with music, arts and culture; and KUT & KUTX Studios, its podcast arm. The stations are licensed to The University of Texas at Austin and work from studios on the UT campus.

KUT signed on on November 10, 1958, and in January 2013 moved its music programming to the new sister station KUTX 98.9. Texas Standard is produced by KUT News in collaboration with KERA North Texas, Houston Public Media and Texas Public Radio and airs on 30 public radio stations statewide. KUT News is also part of The Texas Newsroom, a statewide news collaboration among the same four organizations. KUTX powers TMX.fm, a 24-hour stream of Texas music.

The organization produces podcasts including ATXplained, Black Austin Matters and Tacos of Texas, holds community events such as KUTX Rock the Park and KUTX Live at Scholz Garten, and serves as a backbone of the Central Texas broadcast emergency alert system. Its journalism is free to all, without paywalls or subscriptions.

KUT Public Media hires journalists, editors, hosts and producers for its newsrooms, along with music, digital, multimedia and audio production staff and the people who support its operations. It offers paid internships to more than 25 students a year from local colleges and universities. Staff positions are University of Texas at Austin jobs posted on UT's Workday careers site.
