Buffalo Toronto Public Media (BTPM) is the community-supported public broadcaster for Western New York and Southern Ontario, operating BTPM PBS (WNED-TV), BTPM NPR (WBFO), BTPM Classical (WNED-FM) and The Bridge from studios in downtown Buffalo.
Buffalo Toronto Public Media (BTPM) is the trade name of the Western New York Public Broadcasting Association, a nonprofit, member-supported public broadcaster based at Horizons Plaza, 140 Lower Terrace, in downtown Buffalo, New York. It serves Western New York and Southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, and keeps an office in Toronto for its Canadian viewers and supporters. Its mission is engaging its communities through exploration and entertainment, everywhere. The organization adopted the BTPM name in 2020 and moved its stations to BTPM on-air brands in 2025.
Its television station, WNED-TV (channel 17, branded BTPM PBS), signed on in 1959 as the first educational television station in New York State and is watched on both sides of the border. BTPM also programs PBS KIDS around the clock and the Create how-to channel. On radio, BTPM NPR (WBFO 88.7 FM, heard also on WUBJ 88.1 in Jamestown and WOLN 91.3 in Olean) carries local news and original programming alongside NPR and the BBC; BTPM Classical (WNED-FM 94.5, simulcast on WNJA 89.7 in Jamestown) is the area's only 24-hour classical music station; and The Bridge is an adult album alternative music service.
BTPM produces original documentaries for local and national audiences, among them War of 1812, The Underground Railroad: The William Still Story, Elbert Hubbard: An American Original and Frank Lloyd Wright's Buffalo, and it long co-produced the PBS children's series Reading Rainbow. Its learning and engagement department runs community and educational events and prepares BTPM PBS content for PBS LearningMedia.
BTPM hires for news, television and audio production, digital media, content distribution and programming, audience engagement, learning and engagement, and people operations, and it offers per-diem studio production work. Its internship program places college students across departments, from editorial and production to digital strategy and community engagement.
