Baltimore Public Media

Baltimore Public Media is the independent nonprofit licensee of WYPR 88.1 FM, Baltimore's NPR news station, and WTMD 89.7 FM, the region's home for music discovery, plus Your Public Studios podcasts and live events across Maryland.

Baltimore Public Media is an independent, community-licensed 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered at 2216 N. Charles Street in Baltimore, Maryland. It is the parent organization of WYPR 88.1 FM, the Baltimore area's NPR news station, and WTMD 89.7 FM, the region's adult album alternative station branded as Total Music Discovery. The organization's tagline is Community Amplified, and it is governed by a local board of directors and advised by a Community Advisory Board.

WYPR dates to 1979 and WTMD signed on from Towson University in 1976. WYPR's parent, Your Public Radio Corporation, acquired WTMD from Towson University in November 2021, and in February 2024 the combined organization took the name Baltimore Public Media, uniting both listener-supported stations under one identity.

WYPR's signal is simulcast on WYPF 88.1 FM in Frederick and WYPO 106.9 FM in Ocean City, so the three stations together cover close to two-thirds of Maryland; HD channels carry the BBC and an all-classical service, and WTMD runs an HD2 channel. WYPR produces local news and public affairs programs including Midday and On the Record and the documentary series Out of the Blocks, and shares a collaborative newsroom with Delmarva Public Media. Your Public Studios produces and distributes local podcasts such as Maryland Unfolded and Five Minutes of Baltimore History. WTMD's First Thursday concerts bring free live music to Baltimore parks each summer, and both stations publish newsletters, websites, apps and social channels.

Baltimore Public Media hires across its newsroom, on-air programming, digital and podcast production, music, membership and development, underwriting, engineering, events and administration. Recent openings have included reporters, hosts and producers, and digital producers. WYPR is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
