KVNO

KVNO 90.7 FM is Omaha's classical music public radio station, on the air since 1972 and operated by the University of Nebraska Omaha, with locally hosted classical programming, arts reporting and live broadcasts of the Omaha Symphony.

KVNO (90.7 FM) is a classical music public radio station in Omaha, Nebraska. It is owned and operated by the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) as a media operations unit of the university's College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media, and its broadcast license is held by the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska. The station's studios are in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service building on UNO's Dodge Street campus.

KVNO began broadcasting on August 27, 1972, and has been a fine arts and classical music station throughout its history. Describing itself as Omaha's Classical Radio, it is the only full-time classical music station within two hours of the city in any direction, and it serves the Omaha and Council Bluffs metro area on air and online through kvno.org, a smartphone app, TuneIn and smart speakers. Locally curated and hosted programming fills an average of 19 hours a day, alongside national programs from American Public Media, WFMT and others. Community support accounts for more than half of the station's annual income.

Beyond the music, KVNO produces arts features every weekday, keeps a community arts calendar, and partners with the Omaha Symphony on live broadcasts of its Masterworks series and on the program In Concert with the Omaha Symphony. Its Classical Kids program recognizes a young musician each month with a scholarship and an annual showcase. Two HD Radio subchannels carry MavRadio, UNO's student-run station, and a news and public affairs service built mainly on the BBC World Service.

KVNO staff are University of Nebraska Omaha employees, and openings are posted on the station's website and on UNO's employment site. The station hires for on-air hosting, arts reporting and production, development, membership and underwriting, and broadcast engineering, and it runs a student worker and internship program for UNO students in on-air announcing, audio production, music library management, news and arts reporting, and fundraising.
