KCME 88.7 FM is an independent, listener-supported public radio station in Colorado Springs, Colorado, broadcasting classical music 24 hours a day under the slogan "Local. Classical. Cultural." It is owned and operated by Cheyenne Mountain Public Broadcast House, Inc. (CMPBH), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1977, which also runs a second station, Jazz 93.5 FM, dedicated to jazz around the clock.
KCME started out in a small house in Manitou Springs and moved its studios and offices to Colorado Springs in 1993; they are now at 1921 North Weber Street. From a transmitter atop Cheyenne Mountain and a network of translators, the two stations reach listeners across Central and Southern Colorado, including Manitou Springs, Nathrop, Salida and Buena Vista, Cañon City, Florence and Penrose, and Breckenridge and Summit County. Both are also streamed online and through the KCME app.
Its mission is to be a trusted source of quality music and arts content for the people of Colorado Springs and Southern Colorado, sharing the artistic voices of the city and the world through broadcasting, digital platforms and community engagement. Operating revenue comes from membership drives, on-air program sponsorships from local businesses and organizations, and grants.
The small staff includes on-air hosts, a station manager who also serves as program director and music librarian, a traffic coordinator, development and marketing, and sponsorship sales. Open positions are posted on the Employment Opportunities page at kcme.org.
