KUNM is the public radio station of the University of New Mexico, broadcasting at 89.9 FM from Albuquerque. It signed on October 16, 1966, and its studios are on the third floor of Onate Hall on the UNM main campus, with the main transmitter on Sandia Crest. The station describes itself as community supported public radio from the University of New Mexico, and listener support makes up a little over half of its annual operating budget, with the rest coming from underwriting, nonprofit support, student fees and other sources.

KUNM is an auxiliary unit of the University of New Mexico and an affiliate of NPR, American Public Media, Pacifica, PRX and Native Voice One. Its signal reaches Albuquerque, Santa Fe and the northern Rio Grande Valley directly and extends through central and northern New Mexico by way of full power repeaters in Socorro (KBOM 88.7), Espanola (KRAR 91.9) and Arroyo Seco (KRRT 90.9) plus translators, an HD signal and online streams including the KUNM 2 stream. The station reports roughly 85,000 weekly listeners and a growing digital and social media audience.

A staff of about 25 professionals and 80 volunteers report and produce local news, public affairs programs such as Let's Talk New Mexico and Your NM Government, NPR news, and a wide range of locally produced music shows, along with playlists, studio sessions, album reviews, newsletters and podcasts on kunm.org. The station's mission is to inform, entertain and engage New Mexicans with trusted journalism, exceptional music and vibrant cultural content.

KUNM hires through the University of New Mexico jobs system (UNMJobs) for roles in journalism and news hosting, programming and audience engagement, production, music hosting, underwriting sales, membership and development, engineering and station operations. UNM staff positions are benefits eligible and are posted with a pay range and a best consideration date.
