WFAE 90.7 is Charlotte's NPR news source, an independent nonprofit public radio station licensed to the University Radio Foundation. It serves the Charlotte region on four frequencies with NPR news, local journalism and the weekday show Charlotte Talks.

WFAE 90.7 is a nonprofit public radio station in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the NPR news and information member station for the Charlotte region. It is an independent organization licensed to the University Radio Foundation, Inc., a community nonprofit board that took over the station from UNC Charlotte in 1993. WFAE first signed on in 1977 as a student service of UNC Charlotte and has broadcast at full power on 90.7 FM since 1981.

The station broadcasts on 90.7 FM in Charlotte, 90.3 FM (WFHE) in Hickory, 106.1 FM in Laurinburg and 93.7 FM in Southern Pines, and its HD2 channel carries The Charlotte Jazz Channel. WFAE reaches more than 700,000 listeners and readers each month across broadcast and digital channels, pairing national and international news from NPR, the BBC, PRX and American Public Media with coverage from its own newsroom.

Locally, WFAE produces the weekday talk show Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins, podcasts and columns such as FAQ City, BizWorthy and Charlotte In Motion, and newsletters including Inside Politics and the arts newsletter Tapestry. Its studios and offices are in the University City neighborhood of northeast Charlotte, and the WFAE Center for Community Engagement in First Ward Park in Uptown hosts live shows and community gatherings. The station's mission is journalism that informs, enriches and inspires.

WFAE hires for newsroom roles such as reporters, editors and producers, as well as programming, broadcast operations, engineering and support positions. It also runs the Larry and Ginny Hansen Journalism Fellowship, an annual fellowship with stipends for emerging journalists; applications for the next cohort open in December. Openings are posted on the WFAE careers page.
