Troy Public Radio
Troy Public Radio is Troy University's public radio network, serving southeast Alabama and nearby Georgia and Florida with NPR news by day and classical music by night on WTSU 89.9 Troy, WRWA 88.7 Dothan and WTJB 91.7 Columbus, Georgia.
Troy Public Radio (TPR) is a network of three public radio stations licensed to Troy University and based in Troy, Alabama. It serves southeastern Alabama and parts of western Georgia and northwestern Florida from studios in Wallace Hall on the university's Troy campus. Its mission is to nourish and enrich the mind and spirit and to strengthen the communities it serves with programming that promotes discovery and the exploration of knowledge.
The network began on March 1, 1977, when WTSU signed on as Alabama's third public radio station and the first south of Birmingham; its call letters come from the university's name at the time, Troy State University. Frequencies in Columbus, Georgia (1984) and Dothan (1986) followed, and the service has been on the air 24 hours a day since 2000. The station was earlier known as Southeastern Public Radio.
Today TPR broadcasts on WTSU 89.9 FM, a 100,000-watt signal serving Montgomery and Troy; WRWA 88.7 FM in Dothan; and WTJB 91.7 FM, serving Columbus, Georgia, and Phenix City, Alabama. Its motto is "News and Information By Day. Musical Inspiration By Night." Daytime schedules carry news and features from NPR, American Public Media and PRX, and evenings bring classical, jazz and folk music, including programming from WFMT's Fine Arts Network. Local programs include the interview show "In Focus with Carolyn Hutcheson," which won a 2025 Alabama Broadcasters Association ABBY award for public affairs programming and also reaches listeners as a podcast. TPR is part of Troy University's Broadcast and Digital Network, alongside the student-run TrojanVision channel.
TPR's team includes a director of radio, a media development manager, a podcast program manager and fundraising audio producer, on-air hosts and producers, a digital media producer, a membership manager and broadcast engineers, with part-time production assistants and student interns supporting daily operations. Staff are Troy University employees, and the station's openings are posted on the university's employment site, troyuniversityjobs.com.
