Indiana Public Media is the public media service of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. It comprises WFIU Public Radio, WTIU Public Television, a shared WFIU/WTIU newsroom, the ipm.org website and a range of locally produced programs. Both stations are licensed to The Trustees of Indiana University and share studios in the Radio-Television Building on the IU Bloomington campus. Since 2024 the stations have operated within IU's Media School, with the newsroom keeping its editorial independence.
WFIU has broadcast from the Bloomington campus since October 1950 and was one of NPR's original charter members. It serves south central Indiana with news and classical and jazz music 24 hours a day across 20 counties. WFIU 1 broadcasts on 103.7 FM in Bloomington and on translators serving Terre Haute, Columbus, French Lick and West Baden, Greensburg and Kokomo; WFIU 2 broadcasts on 101.9 FM in Bloomington and 100.1 FM in Seymour. Programs produced at WFIU and heard nationally include Harmonia, Night Lights Classic Jazz, Afterglow and A Moment of Science, and the station has a programming partnership with IU's Jacobs School of Music.
WTIU signed on March 3, 1969, and serves all or part of 29 counties in west and south central Indiana, including Bloomington, Bedford, Columbus and Terre Haute, about 607,000 television households. It carries PBS on five digital channels (WTIU HD, World, Create, Echo and Kids) and produces local programs including Journey Indiana and the weekly Indiana Newsdesk. WTIU is a member of PBS, Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations and the Association of Public Television Stations.
Staff work in content and news, development, digital, marketing, engineering and administration, and are Indiana University employees hired through IU's jobs site. Indiana Public Media also offers paid internships to IU students each fall and spring semester across broadcast production, and more than 80 Media School students work alongside WTIU staff each year.
