KGLP 91.7 FM

KGLP 91.7 FM, Gallup Public Radio, is the NPR-affiliated public radio station for Gallup, New Mexico and nearby communities, broadcasting news, public affairs and volunteer-hosted music from studios on the University of New Mexico-Gallup campus.

KGLP 91.7 FM, known as Gallup Public Radio, is the public radio station for Gallup, New Mexico and the surrounding area. The station has broadcast since 1991 from studios on the University of New Mexico-Gallup branch campus, and describes itself as the only locally managed and operated public radio station in Gallup. Its license is held by Gallup Public Radio, Inc., a New Mexico nonprofit corporation with 501(c)(3) status, governed by a volunteer board of directors.

KGLP airs NPR news and programming alongside shows from American Public Media, PRX, WNYC and Pacifica, plus local news, interviews and public affairs. Listeners can tune in on 91.7 FM, stream at kglp.org, call a telephone listen line, or catch up through a two-week on-demand archive and the station's podcasts. The station runs public service announcements for local organizations in English, Navajo and Spanish.

The station serves a region that lies between the Navajo Nation, the Hopi and Zuni nations, Laguna and Acoma pueblos and the White Mountain Apache Tribe, and Native American news, music and culture are among its programming priorities, along with Spanish-language and Latino-interest shows and Arabic and Middle Eastern music. Many of its music and specialty programs are hosted by community volunteers.

KGLP's stated mission is to provide a community radio service that encourages intellectual curiosity and critical analysis, and to serve the otherwise unserved tastes and interests of the public in the Gallup area. A small professional staff, including a station manager and a production manager, works with volunteer hosts and has hosted a grant-funded local news internship. Volunteer and program inquiries go to manager@kglp.org.
