KSPS PBS is the community-licensed PBS member station in Spokane, Washington, serving more than two million households across eastern Washington, northern Idaho, western Montana and Alberta with public television, education and community programs.
KSPS PBS (KSPS-TV, channel 7) is the PBS member television station for Spokane, Washington, and the Inland Northwest. It went on the air on April 24, 1967, as a service of Spokane Public Schools, whose name its call letters carry. In 2013, after FCC approval, the license passed to Friends of KSPS, the station's longtime fundraising arm and a Washington 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which holds it today. The station is led by President and General Manager Skyler Reep and governed by a community board of directors.
Its studios are on the campus of Joel E. Ferris High School on South Regal Street in Spokane, and its transmitter is on Krell Hill southeast of the city. A network of translators and cable carriage extends the signal into northern Idaho, western Montana, central Washington, southeastern British Columbia and Alberta, where viewers in Calgary and Edmonton have long made up a large share of its audience and donor base. KSPS PBS reports reaching more than 2.35 million households, and more than 27,000 member families in the United States and Canada support it each year.
Alongside the PBS schedule, KSPS PBS produces local public affairs, health and arts programming, and for 35 years it produced the exercise series Sit and Be Fit for national distribution. Its current work spans education, workforce development, arts and culture, and civic health, including Career Explore NW, a workforce development initiative that connects students, educators and employers across the region.
The station hires across fundraising and development (membership, donor services, major and planned giving, corporate underwriting), marketing and communications, education and community outreach, production, programming, engineering and operations, and finance and administration.
