Aspen Public Radio is the NPR member station for the Roaring Fork Valley in western Colorado. It broadcasts on 91.5 KAJX in Aspen and 88.9 KCJX in Carbondale, with translators in Basalt and Snowmass Village, and its signal reaches from Aspen to Glenwood Springs and from Rifle to Eagle. The station also streams online, through its app and on smart speakers. It was founded in 1980 as Roaring Fork Public Radio Translator, became an independent station in 1987, and is operated by Roaring Fork Public Radio, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Its studios are in the Red Brick Center for the Arts in downtown Aspen.

The primary format is NPR news. Each weekday the station carries 16 hours of national programming from NPR, American Public Media, PRX and WNYC and eight hours of international programming from the BBC and PRX, with local newscasts and features inside Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Weekends bring a schedule of 22 national programs and a Sunday evening special that often features a locally recorded community conversation, and a classical music block airs on summer afternoons.

Aspen Public Radio runs a daily local news service for Pitkin, Eagle and Garfield counties, a region of more than 100,000 people. Its seven-person newsroom covers beats including education, climate and the environment, arts and culture, social justice and a women's desk, works with regional NPR editors to bring local stories to a national audience, and takes part in the Rocky Mountain Community Radio collaboration. The station follows NPR's ethics standards and its own journalistic code of ethics.

The station hires reporters, hosts and producers for its newsroom, along with program and operations, membership and development, business support and community relations staff. Full-time roles are based in Aspen and typically require living year-round in the Roaring Fork Valley.
