WDIY

WDIY 88.1 FM, Lehigh Valley Public Radio, is a listener-supported, community-run NPR member station in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, serving eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey with local news, public affairs and an eclectic mix of music since 1995.

WDIY 88.1 FM, branded Lehigh Valley Public Radio, is a listener-supported community public radio station and NPR member serving the Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania and parts of western New Jersey. The station signed on in January 1995, is licensed to Allentown, and broadcasts from studios at 301 Broadway in Bethlehem with a transmitter atop South Mountain. A 2015 power increase extended its signal about 70 miles, from Clinton, New Jersey, to the eastern edge of Reading, and a translator at 93.9 FM serves Easton and neighboring Warren County, New Jersey.

WDIY's mission is to engage the Lehigh Valley community through a wide-ranging exchange of news, music, arts and culturally diverse information. The schedule pairs NPR programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered with locally produced news and public affairs programs, and with music programs spanning classical, folk, jazz, blues, indie rock, world music and more. Its newsroom won 17 Keystone Media Awards in 2025, including Outstanding News Operation among Pennsylvania radio stations outside Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The station also produces podcasts and short features, keeps an online community calendar and offers the WDIY app.

WDIY runs on a community model: a professional staff of 5 to 10 full-time employees works alongside more than 130 volunteers, including over 100 volunteer on-air hosts and producers who are trained by station staff. Its Youth Media Program, launched in 1999, has trained more than 200 high school students in audio production, writing for radio and journalism, and a college internship program gives students experience on both the content and engineering sides of broadcasting in fall, spring and summer terms.

The station is licensed to the Lehigh Valley Community Broadcasters Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and member contributions are its largest source of support. Staff roles include an executive director and directors of operations, membership and development, community relations, and news and public affairs. WDIY posts employment opportunities on its website when they exist.
